Exclusive Metal Puzzle Library - 31 Hanayama & Tetso Puzzles
31 Metal Puzzles. Two Collections. No Repeated Challenge.
The Exclusive Metal Puzzle Library brings together 16 Hanayama puzzles and 15 Tetso puzzles in one large mechanical puzzle collection.
This is not simply a box of similar brain teasers.
One puzzle asks you to navigate an invisible internal maze. Another traps a spiked metal ball inside a cage. Some separate into multiple pieces. Others disguise their solution inside bolts, rings, cylinders, spheres, and familiar-looking objects.
Difficulty ranges from approachable puzzles you can hand to a new solver to advanced challenges capable of keeping experienced collectors occupied for hours.
Together, the 31 puzzles provide a broad introduction to what metal mechanical puzzles can be.
The Hanayama Collection
Hanayama's cast-metal puzzles are known for compact forms, precision movement, and mechanisms created by puzzle designers from around the world. This library includes everything from elegant two-piece disentanglements to some of the most difficult puzzles in the Hanayama line.
Infinity Puzzle
Challenge: Disentangle the three interlocking pieces and put them back together.
The pieces move continuously around one another, making it easy to lose track of where you started. Designed by Vesa Timonen.
Ripple Puzzle
Challenge: Take apart the three interlocking pieces, then reconstruct them.
Its flowing form creates smooth movement during disassembly, but putting the pieces back together can be a very different problem.
Cyclone Puzzle
Challenge: Separate the interlocked pieces and reassemble the Cyclone.
Multiple pieces restrict one another in a tightly controlled arrangement designed by Kyoo Wong.
Cross Puzzle
Challenge: Separate the two interlocking pieces and reconnect them.
Vertical, horizontal, diagonal, and rotational movements all become part of this compact puzzle designed by Edi Nagata.
Hourglass Puzzle
Challenge: Take apart the four interlocking pieces and restore the original Hourglass.
Designed by Jin-Hoo Ahn, this is one of the more demanding puzzles in the collection, with a precise sequence of movements hidden inside four seemingly simple pieces.
Cylinder Puzzle
Challenge: Disassemble the five-piece cylinder and put it back together.
Its smooth exterior gives away almost nothing about the mechanism inside. Designed by Vesa Timonen.
Tube Puzzle
Challenge: Disassemble the three-piece tube and reassemble it.
A difficult cylindrical puzzle by Vesa Timonen where understanding how the pieces interact is more important than force.
Love Puzzle
Challenge: Separate the two pieces and reconnect them to form the heart.
Designed by Scott Elliott, the gold and silver pieces combine into one elegant heart-shaped form.
Dice Puzzle
Challenge: Remove the three pieces and correctly arrange them inside the die-shaped frame.
Designed by Timothy Collins, Dice turns a familiar cube into an orientation and assembly problem.
Planet Puzzle
Challenge: Remove the spherical planet from its surrounding structure and return it.
A compact trapped-object puzzle where rotation and positioning determine the path out.
Square Puzzle
Challenge: Disassemble the four-piece square and rebuild it.
Designed by Vesa Timonen, Square has an unusual twist: changing the arrangement of the pieces can change the solution when you reconstruct it.
Slider Puzzle
Challenge: Separate the three pieces and reassemble them.
A clean, compact puzzle by Vesa Timonen built around controlled sliding movements.
U&U Puzzle
Challenge: Separate the two U-shaped bolts and their nuts, then restore the puzzle.
The familiar hardware-like appearance hides a mechanical trick designed by Kyoo Wong.
UFO Puzzle
Challenge: Take apart the six interlocking pieces and put the UFO back together.
Designed by Vesa Timonen, four freely rotating spherical pieces make understanding the structure especially difficult.
Spiral Puzzle
Challenge: Separate all five pieces and reconstruct the spiral.
The pieces appear almost inseparable when assembled, and rebuilding the structure creates a second challenge.
Valve Puzzle
Challenge: Take apart the three-piece valve and reassemble it.
Designed by Vesa Timonen, the puzzle behaves like an invisible internal maze. Rotating the pieces gradually reveals how the hidden paths interact.
The Tetso Collection
The Tetso side of the library offers a very different mix of solving experiences, including classic disentanglement designs, trapped-object puzzles, mechanical bolts, historical puzzle concepts, and sequential challenges.
Venus Trap
Challenge: Free the spiked metal ball from the cylindrical cage and return it.
The openings seem too small and the spikes seem to block every path, but the geometry provides a way out.
Two Nails
Challenge: Separate the two interlocked nails and reconnect them.
A classic-looking two-piece disentanglement puzzle where the correct orientation changes everything.
Two Keys
Challenge: Separate the two interlocked metal keys and reassemble them.
An approachable mechanical puzzle based on a classic 19th-century puzzle concept.
Taurus
Challenge: Separate the two interlocked Taurus-shaped pieces and put them back together.
Two sculptural bull-head forms create a symmetrical three-dimensional disentanglement challenge.
Q&Q
Challenge: Separate the two Q-shaped pieces and reconnect them.
Compact and seemingly simple, Q&Q depends on discovering the exact orientation that releases the pieces.
Anchor
Challenge: Remove the anchor from the base and restore it.
A two-piece cast-metal puzzle built around an unusual maritime form.
Boltrix
Challenge: Screw the nut onto the bolt.
A chain, bolt, nut, and washer appear to make that simple objective impossible. Boltrix is one of the hardest puzzles in the Tetso collection.
Caged Orb
Challenge: Free the brass ball from its metal cage.
The ball is clearly visible between the rods. Finding the path that releases it is another matter.
Cannon Puzzle
Challenge: Free the small metal cannonball trapped inside the muzzle.
A solid-brass sequential discovery puzzle inspired by the historical Cannon and Ball puzzle. The solution requires understanding more than a single movement.
Double M
Challenge: Separate the two interlocked M-shaped pieces and reassemble them.
Once the hidden movement is understood, the puzzle suddenly behaves very differently.
Free Star
Challenge: Free the metal star from the loop and return it.
A classic trapped-object challenge recreated in cast metal.
Hexed Bolt II
Challenge: Remove the nut and washer.
It resembles the original Hexed Bolt, but the mechanism is completely different, so solving one does not reveal the other.
Hexed Bolt I
Challenge: Remove the nut from the bolt and understand the hidden mechanism.
It looks like ordinary hardware, but normal unscrewing won't solve it.
Link Puzzle
Challenge: Separate the four interlocked rings and reassemble them.
Each movement depends on the previous one, creating a much more involved disentanglement sequence than its clean appearance suggests.
Loop Puzzle
Challenge: Separate the two interlocking loop-shaped pieces and reconnect them.
A simple-looking introduction to metal disentanglement where two continuous forms seem to have no obvious way apart.
More Than 31 Versions of the Same Puzzle
The strength of this collection is the range of mechanisms.
Across the library you will encounter:
- interlocking and take-apart puzzles
- metal disentanglement puzzles
- trapped-object challenges
- hidden internal mechanisms
- invisible mazes
- nut-and-bolt trick puzzles
- sequential discovery
- assembly and reconstruction
- puzzles where solving the first half creates an entirely new problem
That means solving one puzzle rarely gives away the next.
A technique that works beautifully on Two Nails will not help much with Cylinder.
Understanding Hexed Bolt I will not solve Hexed Bolt II.
And taking Hourglass apart does not mean you'll know how to put it back together.
From First Metal Puzzle to Expert Challenge
Difficulty across the collection ranges from approachable to extremely difficult.
That makes the Metal Puzzle Library useful in several ways.
A newer solver can begin with puzzles such as Two Nails, Two Keys, Love, or Loop, then gradually move toward more demanding mechanisms.
An experienced collector can go directly to challenges such as Infinity, Hourglass, Ripple, Boltrix, or Link.
Or ignore difficulty completely and choose whichever object looks most interesting.
There is no required order.
Built for Solving, Resetting, and Sharing
Every puzzle is its own independent challenge.
Solve one, restore it to its starting position, and pass it to someone else without explaining what you discovered.
With 31 puzzles, the library works especially well for:
- mechanical puzzle collectors
- puzzle nights
- families
- offices
- group challenges
- desk-puzzle collections
- gifts for serious puzzle enthusiasts
- anyone who wants to explore different forms of metal puzzle design
Spread several across a table and everyone can choose a different problem.
Two Different Metal Puzzle Collections in One Library
Hanayama and Tetso approach metal puzzles differently.
The Hanayama selection includes precision cast-metal designs from puzzle creators such as Vesa Timonen, Jin-Hoo Ahn, Kyoo Wong, Scott Elliott, and others.
The Tetso selection adds disentanglements, solid-metal mechanisms, historical puzzle concepts, trapped-object challenges, and trick hardware designs.
Putting both together creates something much broader than either collection on its own.
