Japanese Secret Puzzle Box 4 sun 10 steps - Himitsu Bako

The 4 Sun 10-Step Japanese Puzzle Box is a diamond in the rough! Hand-crafted in the Yosegi fashion, this puzzle box is made in Japan using ancient techniques. The goal of the puzzle is to operate the sliding, wooden panels in a predetermined sequence so that the lid will open on the 10th step. There is no brute force required while solving, only your brain. The panels will glide smoothly only if you are on the right track. Once solved, there is space inside to store items as a prize for finishing! The size of the puzzle box is 3.15" x 4.72" x 2" inches, and the box is co-branded with Master Kenji Nakazato and Kubiya Japan.

About the Craft:

The process of making these artistic marvels is a grand style of woodwork passed down through the generations in Japanese culture, dating as far back as the Meiji era. The intricate process makes use of natural, fine grains and textures of wood to create mosaic patterns. Timbers of different colors are cut into oblong rods of desired sections. The rods are then glued together to form each individual geometric pattern. The finished product appears to be painted with different colors, but is really a collage of beautiful wood grains!
