Reversi
Reversi offers an intriguing challenge for all ages and involves an abstract strategy for two players. Kids can enjoy the game and learn basic board game strategy, while adults can spend a good deal of time on each move, contemplating the best possible place to put their pegs. The goal for each player is to increase the presence of their color on the board by turning over as many of their opponent's pieces as possible. Outflank your opponent and win by ending up with the majority of pegs on the board in your color. 2-Player games like Reversi require you to analyze the brain of whoever you play against. Each new opponent means a new strategy and a whole new challenge!
Checkers
Checkers is a classic 2-player strategy game where each opponent chooses a color for their half of the pieces on the checkerboard. The objective of the game is to capture all of your opponent’s pieces or block your opponent from moving by luring them into a trap. Players capture pieces by jumping over their opponent's pieces into an empty space. Each new move requires careful consideration of both offense and defense - sure to keep your brain buzzing!
Chinese Checkers
Chinese Checkers is another strategy board game. The rules are simple - even young children can keep up and have fun. The ancient game has long maintained the same basic set of rules. Each player wants to be first to race all of their pegs across the board to their "home": the opposite corner from the starting corner. Players must use single-step moves or moves that jump over other pieces on the board. You can play with up to six people, and for each added player the gameplay becomes more chaotic and complex!
Peg solitaire
Peg Solitaire is the perfect strategy game for one player. The objective of the game is to remove all the pegs from the board, except for the last one. Peg Solitaire begins with almost the entire board filled up, leaving one central hole that stays empty. To move, jump any peg over an adjacent peg (horizontal or vertical, but not diagonal) and into an empty hole. Then, remove the jumped peg from the board. Keep playing until either one peg is left, or you have no playable moves remaining. The simplest solution takes "only" 31 moves! Plan your moves very carefully, and try to keep your path connected from one point to the next.
